Rubrics

It wasn't until this Test and Measurements course that I actually LIKED using and creating rubrics! I used to think that rubrics served no purpose and was basically a waste of time but since spending more time with them in Dr. Luongo's class, I LOVE them and plan on using them when I become a teacher :)

I think back to when I took Teaching Science with Dr. Redden...the class was assigned to create a rubric for an experiment as well as a science fair project. If i had known about the almighty RubiStar website, I probably would have enjoyed this assignment a little bit more! Rubrics are an excellant way for the teacher to assess students while also giving students the chance to know what is expected from them. A rubric clearly states what is expected and how to meet certain guidelines in order to obtain a certain grade. This helps the teacher steer clear of quarrels with students when they ask questions such as, "How come Johnny got a higher grade on his project than mine!?"

I feel that rubrics are a fair evaluation of student work because it is cut and dry; there is no reason or excuse to receive a bad grade!
